Jada Cameron is a West Palm Beach/Gainesville based artist. She was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she majored in visual arts at Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts. In high school, Jada began to develop the concept of her work to focus on the black community. Since she was attending a predominately white school, she wanted her work to reflect her reality outside of school. She wanted to showcase the beauty of black people in all shades. In the first grade, she took interest into drawing as she saw how fellow class mates were amazed by the drawing abilities of an afterschool chaperone. Jada started to drawing pictures of people and scenes she would see on the television. Her teacher noticed her interest in drawing and decided to get her enrolled into some after school art lessons. At that moment, Jada saw drawing as a way to escape the bullying that she was facing from her peers and found her identity/ comfort zone. The more she continued to draw, the more people drew to her to see her draw, which lessen the bullying that she was experiencing.

Since “there wasn’t any representation of that growing up because it was taught that black people, specifically dark skinned people weren’t beautiful.” That inspired her to change the narrative about the beauty of black people by showcasing the glory and richness in the various skin tones of black people.

Inspired by the movie Moonlight, Jada decided to do paintings geared towards people of darker complexion since “there wasn’t any representation of that growing up because it was taught that black people, specifically dark skinned people weren’t beautiful.” That inspired her to change the narrative about the beauty of black people by showcasing the glory and richness in the various skin tones of black people. Now she attends University of Florida, which she puts her artistic skills and creative mind into her major of architecture. The Jada Simone website is a website created to showcase all aspects of beauty within the black community from all shades. She is a Scholastic Art & Writing National Gold Medalist, whose artwork has been seen by former first lady Michelle Obama.
